Christmas Amalgamated

Each year following Remembrance Day, Christmas Amalgamated sets up shop in Kamloops in preparation for the busy Christmas season.

They need those weeks to prepare for nearly two thousand families who will request support over the holidays.

Christmas Amalgamated provides approved, qualifying families, mostly consisting of single mothers, a food hamper made up of everything necessary to cook a full  Christmas dinner, as well as a toy for each child in the family.  The toys are new, and unwrapped, and are donated either directly to Christmas Amalgamated, or donated via the “Toys for Kids” toy-drive.

Once the family has been approved, the parent can then “shop” in the toy room, choosing one toy for their child, which they can take home and wrap themselves.  Then, during the week before Christmas, arrangements are made for a food hamper to be delivered right to the family’s door.

For individuals who are interested in giving back and performing an act of kindness in the spirit of Christmas, a few opportunities exists to make a contribution, both in the form of a new toy, or food for Christmas dinner hampers.

The food hampers are filled with items listed below, all of which are welcomed in the form of a donation directly to the Christmas Amalgamated headquarters, where they are sorted and compiled into baskets for each family.  There are no refrigerators or freezers in the building, so they request that all donations are non-perishable:

  • A Gift Certificate for a Turkey
  • Potatoes
  • Stuffing
  • A can of Cranberry Jelly
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Cans of Soup
  • Juice
  • Jello or pudding
  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Christmas cake
  • Mixture of nuts and candy
  • Tea or coffee
  • Bread or Buns

During this season, when we celebrate the abundance in our own lives, we have an opportunity to share that abundance with children who otherwise may not have the luxury of celebrating Christmas with a gift and a special meal.

But most importantly, we have an opportunity to share with a child who will hopefully grow up and ”Pay it Forward” themselves.

With love and gratitude,

Natalie. xo
